Rachael May Taylor was born on April 11, 1984, in Launceston, Tasmania, Australia. She attended Riverside High School. Before pursuing acting, she worked as a model, winning the Miss Teen Tasmania title in 1998 and competing in the Miss Teen Australia pageant.
Taylor began her acting career with roles in Australian television series. Her early work included appearances in shows such as “HeadLand” (2005-2006) and “Dynasty: The Making of a Guilty Pleasure” (2005).
Taylor’s breakthrough role came with her portrayal of Maggie Madsen in the 2007 film “Transformers.” This role helped establish her presence in Hollywood. Following “Transformers,” she appeared in several films in various genres, including “Shutter” (2008), “Cedar Boys” (2009), and “Red Dog” (2011).
In addition to her film work, Taylor has had a significant television career. She starred as Dr. Erica Warner in the short-lived ABC drama “Grey’s Anatomy” (2011). She also played a recurring role as Olivia Moore’s boss in the medical procedural “Charlie’s Angels” (2011). A notable role was as Jane Quimby in the ABC drama “666 Park Avenue” (2012-2013). She is known for her role as Trish Walker in the Marvel Cinematic Universe Netflix series “Jessica Jones” (2015-2019), “Luke Cage” (2016), and “The Defenders” (2017).
