Early Life and Education

Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was born on April 15, 1990, in Paris, France, to British lawyers Jacqueline Luesby and Chris Watson. She moved to Oxfordshire, England, with her mother and brother after her parents divorced. Watson attended the Dragon School in Oxford and later Headington School, also in Oxford. While attending school, she took acting classes at Stagecoach Theatre Arts.

Watson also balanced her acting career with her education. She attended Brown University and Worcester College, Oxford, graduating from Brown University in May 2014 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature.

Acting Career

Watson’s acting career began in 2001 with her role as Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter film series. She was cast in the role at the age of nine, having auditioned through her school. The success of the Harry Potter films brought her international recognition and critical acclaim.
