Natasha Jane Richardson (11 May 1963 – 18 March 2009) was a British actress of stage and screen. Born in London, England, she was the daughter of actress Vanessa Redgrave and director/producer Tony Richardson, and granddaughter of actors Sir Michael Redgrave and Rachel Kempson. Her sister was actress Joely Richardson, and her uncle was actor Corin Redgrave.
Richardson began her acting career on stage, making her professional debut at the Leeds Playhouse in 1983. She quickly established herself as a talent on the London stage, appearing in productions such as On the Razzle and The Seagull. Her Broadway debut came in 1993 in a revival of Anna Christie, for which she won the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Play. She continued to work extensively in theatre throughout her career, both in London and New York, with notable performances in Cabaret (1998), Closer (1999), and A Streetcar Named Desire (2005).
Richardson transitioned to film and television, building a diverse and respected body of work. Her performances were often noted for their intelligence, sensitivity, and emotional depth. She worked with numerous acclaimed directors and actors, showcasing her versatility across various genres.
