Rebecca Maria Hall was born on May 3, 1982, in London, England. She is the daughter of Sir Peter Hall, a theatre director and founder of the Royal Shakespeare Company, and Maria Ewing, an American opera singer. Hall was educated at Roedean School, a boarding school for girls, and later studied English Literature at St Catharine’s College, Cambridge, before leaving prior to graduating in 2003 to pursue acting full-time.
Hall began her acting career on stage, making her professional debut in 1992 in her father’s production of “Mrs. Warren’s Profession.” She continued to appear in stage productions throughout her youth and early adulthood, establishing herself as a talented stage actress. Notable stage credits include “As You Like It” (2003), “Galileo’s Daughter” (2004), and “The Cherry Orchard” (2009).
Hall transitioned to film and television, quickly gaining recognition for her performances. Her film debut was in 2006 in “Starter for 10.” She gained wider recognition in Christopher Nolan’s “The Prestige” (2006) and Woody Allen’s “Vicky Cristina Barcelona” (2008), for which she received a Golden Globe nomination.
