Kaya Rose Scodelario-Davis (born Kaya Rose Humphrey on March 13, 1992) is a British actress. She was born in Haywards Heath, West Sussex, England, to a Brazilian mother and an English father. Her parents divorced when she was a child, and she was raised primarily by her mother. She took her mother’s surname, Scodelario, after the divorce.
Scodelario began her acting career in 2007 at the age of 14 when she was cast as Effy Stonem in the E4 teen drama series Skins. She had no prior acting experience. She remained a central character on the show for four seasons, until its conclusion in 2010, gaining significant recognition for her portrayal of the complex and rebellious Effy.
Following her success on Skins, Scodelario transitioned to film. Her early film roles included appearances in Moon (2009) and Clash of the Titans (2010). She secured leading roles in independent films such as Wuthering Heights (2011), directed by Andrea Arnold, and Now Is Good (2012).
Scodelario gained wider recognition for her role as Teresa Agnes in The Maze Runner film series (2014-2018), based on the young adult dystopian novels by James Dashner. The series, including Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials (2015) and Maze Runner: The Death Cure (2018), was a significant commercial success. She also starred in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (2017) as Carina Smyth, further solidifying her presence in mainstream cinema.
