Jessica Brown Findlay was born on September 14, 1989, in Cookham, Berkshire, England. She initially pursued a career as a professional ballet dancer. She trained with the National Youth Ballet and the Royal Ballet School. Injury curtailed her dance career, leading her to pursue acting.
Findlay began her acting career in 2009 with roles in television series. Her breakthrough role came in 2010 with the ITV period drama Downton Abbey, where she played Lady Sybil Branson (née Crawley). She appeared in the first three seasons of the show.
