Anna Torv was born on June 7, 1979, in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. She grew up in Gold Coast, Queensland. Her father is of Estonian descent. She graduated from Benowa State High School in 1996 and earned a Bachelor of Performing Arts degree from the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) in 2001.
Torv began her acting career with guest appearances on Australian television series, including “Young Lions” (2002), “White Collar Blue” (2002), and “The Secret Life of Us” (2003). She also had a recurring role in the Australian drama “McLeod’s Daughters” (2003-2004).
Torv achieved international recognition for her leading role as FBI Special Agent Olivia Dunham in the Fox science fiction series “Fringe” (2008-2013). Her portrayal of the character, including alternate versions of Olivia, garnered critical acclaim and multiple award nominations.
Following “Fringe,” Torv continued to work in television, appearing in series such as “Deadline Gallipoli” (2015), “Secret City” (2016-2019), and “Mindhunter” (2017-2019), where she played Wendy Carr, an FBI psychology consultant. She also starred in the HBO adaptation of “The Last of Us” (2023) as Theresa “Terry” Hicks.
Torv has appeared in several films, including “The Book of Revelation” (2006), “Heavenly Sword” (2007) (voice and mo-cap), “Accidents Happen” (2009), and “Stephanie” (2017).
