Rose Eleanor Arbuthnot-Leslie (born 9 February 1987) is a Scottish actress. She was raised in Lickleyhead Castle in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. She is the daughter of Sebastian Arbuthnot-Leslie and Candida Mary Sibyl “Candy” Weld. The Leslie family is an aristocratic Scottish clan with historical roots.
Leslie was educated at Rayne North School and later Millfield School. She then attended the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA), graduating with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Acting in 2008.
Leslie’s professional acting career began in 2008 with a role in the television film New Town, for which she won the Scottish BAFTA Award for Best Acting Performance – New Talent. Her stage debut was in Bedlam at the Globe Theatre in 2010.
Leslie gained widespread recognition for her portrayal of Gwen Dawson in the first series of the ITV period drama Downton Abbey (2010-2011). She is best known for her role as the wildling Ygritte in the HBO fantasy drama series Game of Thrones (2012-2014), earning critical acclaim for her performance. She also played Maia Rindell in the CBS All Access legal drama The Good Fight (2017-2019).
