Eliza Taylor-Cotter, known professionally as Eliza Taylor, was born on October 24, 1989, in Melbourne, Australia. Her mother is a writer and her stepfather was a stand-up comedian. She has two sisters and a brother. Taylor attended school and developed an early interest in acting, participating in school productions.
Taylor’s acting career began with small roles in Australian television series. Her early work included roles in Pirate Islands (2003) and Blue Heelers (2003). She also appeared in Neighbours in 2003 before landing a recurring role in 2005.
Taylor achieved significant recognition for her role as Janae Timmins in the Australian soap opera Neighbours. She joined the cast in 2005 and remained until 2008. Her portrayal of Janae earned her nominations for various awards, including a nomination for Best Female Performance at the Inside Soap Awards.
Following her departure from Neighbours, Taylor worked on various Australian television projects, including guest roles in series like All Saints and Winners & Losers. She later transitioned to American television.
Taylor gained international prominence for her leading role as Clarke Griffin in the CW’s post-apocalyptic science fiction drama The 100. She played the role from the series’ premiere in 2014 until its conclusion in 2020. Her performance as Clarke Griffin was critically acclaimed and cemented her status as a leading actress.
