Emma Rose Roberts was born on February 10, 1991, in Rhinebeck, New York. She is the daughter of actor Eric Roberts and Kelly Cunningham. She is also the niece of actress Julia Roberts and singer Lisa Roberts Gillan. Roberts was raised primarily by her mother after her parents separated when she was young. She spent significant time on film sets with her aunt Julia, which sparked her interest in acting.
Roberts began her acting career at a young age. She made her film debut in 2001 with a small role in Blow. Her breakthrough role came in 2004 when she starred as Addie Singer in the Nickelodeon television series Unfabulous. The series ran for three seasons and earned Roberts a Teen Choice Award nomination.
Following her success on Nickelodeon, Roberts transitioned to more mature roles in film and television. She starred in films such as Aquamarine (2006), Nancy Drew (2007), and Wild Child (2008). She then appeared in a number of independent films, including Lymelife (2008) and It’s Kind of a Funny Story (2010).
Roberts gained further recognition for her roles in horror and thriller projects. She starred in Scream 4 (2011) and later became a recurring cast member in Ryan Murphy’s anthology series American Horror Story, appearing in multiple seasons including Coven, Freak Show, Cult, Apocalypse, and 1984. She also starred in the Fox horror-comedy series Scream Queens (2015-2016).
