Anna Kay Faris was born on November 29, 1976, in Baltimore, Maryland, to Karen Faris, a special education teacher, and Jack Faris, a sociologist. She grew up in Edmonds, Washington. Her father worked at the University of Washington as a vice president of internal communications and later headed the Washington Biotechnology and Biomedical Association. Faris began acting at age nine with the Seattle Repertory Theatre.

Education

Faris attended Edmonds-Woodway High School, graduating in 1994. She then studied English literature at the University of Washington, earning a degree in 1999.
