Chulpan Nailevna Khamatova was born on October 1, 1975, in Kazan, Tatar ASSR, Russian SFSR, Soviet Union (now Republic of Tatarstan, Russia). Her father, Nail Khamatov, is an engineer, and her mother, Marina Galimullovna, is also an engineer. She initially studied mathematics at Kazan State University before enrolling at the Kazan Theatre School in 1995. Later, she moved to Moscow to study at the Russian Academy of Theatre Arts (GITIS), graduating in 1997.
Khamatova began her film career while still a student. Her early roles brought her immediate attention, establishing her as a prominent actress in Russian cinema. She quickly gained recognition for her versatility and emotional depth in portraying a wide range of characters. She worked extensively in both film and theatre, becoming a leading actress at the Sovremennik Theatre in Moscow.
