Juliet Anne Virginia Stevenson, born on October 30, 1956, in Kelvedon, Essex, England, is a British actress renowned for her versatility and acclaimed performances in theatre, film, and television. She was educated at St. Catherine’s School, Bramley, and later at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA), where she won the Bancroft Gold Medal.
Stevenson’s career began primarily on the stage. She joined the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) in 1978 and quickly established herself as a leading actress. Her notable RSC roles include Isabella in Measure for Measure (1979) and Rosalind in As You Like It (1985). She has also performed extensively at the National Theatre, winning an Olivier Award for Best Actress in 1993 for her performance in Death and the Maiden.
