Early Life and Background

Courteney Bass Cox was born on June 15, 1964, in Birmingham, Alabama, to businessman Richard Lewis Cox and Courteney Bass. She was raised in Mountain Brook, Alabama. She has two older sisters, Virginia and Dottie, and an older brother, Richard Jr. After graduating from Mountain Brook High School, she attended Mount Vernon College (now Mount Vernon University) in Washington, D.C., for a year, studying architecture, before dropping out to pursue a modeling career in New York City.

Early Career

Cox’s early career included modeling and appearances in music videos, most notably Bruce Springsteen’s “Dancing in the Dark” in 1984. She also had minor television roles, including a recurring role on the soap opera “As the World Turns” (1984) and a role in the short-lived sitcom “Misfits of Science” (1985).
