Nia Talita Long was born on October 30, 1970, in Brooklyn, New York City. Her mother, Talita Long, was a teacher and printmaker, and her father, Doughtry Long, Sr., was a high school teacher and poet. Long’s parents divorced when she was two years old. She moved to Los Angeles with her mother when she was four. She attended St. Mary’s Academy in Inglewood, California.
Long began her acting career in the mid-1980s. One of her earliest roles was in the Disney television movie “The B.R.A.T. Patrol” (1986). She gained recognition for her role as Brandi Hughes in the CBS soap opera “Guiding Light” from 1991 to 1994. She also had a recurring role as Claudia in “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” (1991-1995).
Long transitioned to film, establishing herself as a prominent actress in the 1990s and 2000s. She has starred in numerous commercially successful and critically acclaimed films.
