Madelaine Grobbelaar Petsch was born on August 18, 1994, in Port Orchard, Washington, USA. Her parents are South African. She spent the first ten years of her life splitting her time between Washington and South Africa. Petsch developed a passion for the arts at a young age, taking dance classes from the age of five and acting classes at the age of ten.
Petsch moved to Los Angeles after graduating high school to pursue an acting career. She initially worked in commercials and small film roles. Her early work included a commercial for Coca-Cola and an appearance in the film *The Hive* (2015).
