Angela Faye Kinsey was born on June 25, 1971, in Lafayette, Louisiana. She spent her childhood in Jakarta, Indonesia, where her father worked as a drilling engineer. Her family returned to the United States when she was 14, settling in Archer City, Texas. Kinsey graduated from Baylor University with a degree in English.
Kinsey began her career in Los Angeles, initially working as an operator for 1-800-Dentist and taking improv classes at The Groundlings Theater. She also worked at a comedy hotline for a time. She appeared in small roles on television shows such as “Step by Step,” “King of the Hill,” and “Run of the House.”
Kinsey’s breakthrough role came in 2005 when she was cast as Angela Martin in the NBC sitcom “The Office.” She played the uptight, judgmental accountant for all nine seasons of the show. Her portrayal of Angela Martin earned her widespread recognition and critical acclaim. She won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Comedy Series as part of the show’s ensemble cast in 2006.
Following the success of “The Office,” Kinsey has appeared in numerous other television shows and films. Her television credits include roles in “Your Family or Mine,” “Haters Back Off,” “Fresh Off the Boat,” “Miracle Workers,” and “Tall Girl 2.” She also co-hosted the podcast “Office Ladies” with Jenna Fischer, revisiting episodes of “The Office” and providing behind-the-scenes commentary.
