Anna Kay Faris was born on November 29, 1976, in Baltimore, Maryland, to Karen Faris, a special education teacher, and Jack Faris, a sociologist. She grew up in Edmonds, Washington. Her father worked at the University of Washington as a vice president of internal communications and later headed the Washington Biotechnology and Biomedical Association. Faris began acting at age nine with the Seattle Repertory Theatre.
Faris attended Edmonds-Woodway High School, graduating in 1994. She then studied English literature at the University of Washington, earning a degree in 1999.
Faris started her acting career with uncredited roles in films like “Deception: A Mother’s Secret” (1991) and “Eden” (1996). Her breakthrough role came in 2000 with the lead role of Cindy Campbell in the comedy horror parody film “Scary Movie”.
Faris is primarily known for her comedic roles. She reprised her role as Cindy Campbell in “Scary Movie 2” (2001), “Scary Movie 3” (2003), and “Scary Movie 4” (2006). She has also appeared in films such as “The Hot Chick” (2002), “Lost in Translation” (2003), “Just Friends” (2005), “My Super Ex-Girlfriend” (2006), “Smiley Face” (2007), “The House Bunny” (2008), “Observe and Report” (2009), “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs” (2009), “What’s Your Number?” (2011), “The Dictator” (2012), and “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2” (2013).
From 2013 to 2020, Faris starred as Christy Plunkett in the CBS sitcom “Mom,” alongside Allison Janney. She also hosted the podcast “Anna Faris Is Unqualified,” which features interviews with celebrities and relationship
