Constance Wu was born on March 22, 1982, in Richmond, Virginia. Her parents immigrated to the United States from Taiwan. Her father is a professor of biology and her mother is a computer programmer. Wu graduated from Douglas S. Freeman High School. She attended the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute before graduating from the State University of New York at Purchase with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in acting in 2005.
Wu began her acting career primarily in theater and independent films. She relocated to Los Angeles to pursue more opportunities in film and television. Early roles included appearances on television shows such as “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” “Covert Affairs,” and “Torchwood.”
