Andrea Donna de Matteo, known professionally as Drea de Matteo, was born on January 19, 1972, in Queens, New York City. Her mother, Donna, worked as a playwright and screenwriter, and her father, Albert, was a furniture manufacturer. She is of Italian descent. De Matteo attended New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, initially studying directing before shifting her focus to acting.
De Matteo began her acting career in the mid-1990s, appearing in independent films and television roles. Her breakthrough role came in 1999 when she was cast as Adriana La Cerva in the HBO drama series The Sopranos. This role garnered her significant recognition and critical acclaim.
De Matteo is best known for her role as Adriana La Cerva in The Sopranos (1999-2006), for which she won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series in 2004. She also received a Golden Globe nomination for the same role.
