Elizabeth Debicki was born on August 24, 1990, in Paris, France, to a Polish father and an Australian mother of Irish descent, both of whom were ballet dancers. When she was five, her family moved to Melbourne, Australia. Debicki is the eldest of three children. She studied ballet as a child before transitioning to drama. She attended Huntingtower School in Melbourne, where she was dux of her class and excelled in drama and English. She graduated from the Victorian College of the Arts at the University of Melbourne in 2010 with a degree in drama.
Debicki began her professional acting career shortly after graduating from university. Her early work included stage productions and small roles in Australian television. Her breakthrough role came in 2013 with Baz Luhrmann’s adaptation of The Great Gatsby, where she played Jordan Baker. This role brought her international recognition and launched her career in Hollywood.
