Erica Durance was born on June 21, 1978, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. She was raised on a turkey farm in Three Hills, Alberta. Durance began acting in community theater productions during her youth. Before pursuing acting professionally, she worked as a waitress.
Durance relocated to Vancouver, British Columbia, to pursue acting roles. She initially appeared in commercials and small television roles. Her early television credits include guest appearances in shows such as “The Untold,” “The Chris Isaak Show,” and “Tru Calling.” She also had minor roles in films, including “The Butterfly Effect 2” and “House of the Dead.”
Durance gained widespread recognition for her portrayal of Lois Lane in the television series “Smallville.” She joined the cast in 2004 during the show’s fourth season and remained a series regular until its conclusion in 2011. Her performance as Lois Lane garnered critical acclaim and established her as a prominent actress in the science fiction and superhero genres.
Following “Smallville,” Durance continued to work in television. She starred as Dr. Alex Reid in the medical drama “Saving Hope,” which aired for five seasons from 2012 to 2017. She also appeared in guest roles on various television series, including “Harry’s Law” and “Charlie’s Angels.”
Durance reprised her role as Lois Lane in the Arrowverse crossover event “Crisis on Infinite Earths” (2019-2020), appearing in “Supergirl” and “Batwoman.” She has also taken on roles in Hallmark Channel movies and other television films.
