January Kristen Jones was born on January 5, 1978, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, to Karen and Marvin Jones. Her father was a fitness instructor and gym owner, and her mother was a sporting goods retailer. She has two sisters, Jacey and Jina. She attended Roosevelt High School in Sioux Falls.
Jones began her career as a model after being spotted by a talent scout. She moved to New York City and worked for Abercrombie & Fitch before transitioning into acting. She appeared in television commercials and had small roles in television shows such as “Get Real” and “Ally McBeal” in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
Jones achieved widespread recognition for her role as Betty Draper in the AMC television series “Mad Men” (2007-2015). Her portrayal of the complex and troubled housewife earned her critical acclaim and two Golden Globe Award nominations for Best Actress – Television Series Drama and a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series.
