Jasmine Cephas Jones was born on December 16, 1989, in London, England. She is the daughter of British actor Ron Cephas Jones and jazz singer Kim Lesley. She was raised in Brooklyn, New York, and attended Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts, where she studied drama. She later attended Berklee College of Music.
Cephas Jones’ career began on stage. She is best known for originating the dual roles of Peggy Schuyler and Maria Reynolds in the original Broadway production of the musical Hamilton (2015-2016). Her performance in Hamilton earned her a Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album in 2016.
