BIO: Jenny Slate

Early Life and Education

Jenny Slate was born on March 25, 1982, in Milton, Massachusetts, to Ron Slate, a poet and author, and Nancy (née Gilson), a ceramicist. She is of Jewish heritage. Slate graduated from Milton Academy and went on to attend Columbia University, where she majored in literature and focused on improvisational comedy. She graduated in 2004.

Career Beginnings

Slate began her comedy career performing improvisational and sketch comedy at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in New York City. She gained early recognition as one half of the comedy duo Gabe & Jenny with Gabe Liedman.

Television Acting Career

Slate’s television career began with roles on shows such as “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” and “Bored to Death.” Her breakthrough role came in 2009 when she joined the cast of “Saturday Night Live” for one season. Although her tenure was brief, she became known for her character Tina-Tina Cheneuse. She gained further recognition for her voice work as Tammy Larsen in “Bob’s Burgers” (2011–present) and as Missy Foreman-Greenwald in “Big Mouth” (2017-2020).

Film Acting Career

Slate’s film career has included both comedic and dramatic roles. She starred in and co-wrote the critically acclaimed film “Obvious Child” (2014), which earned her nominations for several awards. She has also appeared in supporting roles in films such as “This Means War” (2012), “The Secret Life of Pets” (2016), “Gifted” (2017), and “Venom” (2018). In 2019, she starred in “The Sunlit Night”. Slate also voiced Marcel in “Marcel the Shell with Shoes On” (2021), a film she co-wrote and produced, receiving widespread acclaim and an Academy Award nomination for Best Animated Feature.
