Kimila Ann Basinger was born on December 8, 1953, in Athens, Georgia, to Ann Lee (née Cordell), a model and actress, and Donald Wade Basinger, a musician and loan manager. She was raised in a Methodist family and has two brothers, Mick and Skip, and two sisters, Ashley and Barbara. Basinger won the Junior Miss Georgia title and competed in the national Junior Miss pageant. At 16, she began modeling in New York City after being signed by the Ford Modeling Agency. She also took acting classes at the Neighborhood Playhouse.
Basinger relocated to Los Angeles in 1976 and secured television roles, including appearances in series like “Charlie’s Angels,” “McMillan & Wife,” and “Katie: Portrait of a Centerfold.” Her film debut was in “Hard Country” (1981). Her breakthrough role came in the James Bond film “Never Say Never Again” (1983).
