Liv Rundgren Tyler (born Liv Rundgren; July 1, 1977) is an American actress. She was born in New York City to Bebe Buell, a model and singer, and initially believed Todd Rundgren, a musician, to be her father. At age eleven, she discovered that Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler was her biological father.
Tyler began her career as a model at age 14, but decided to focus on acting shortly thereafter. She made her film debut in Silent Fall (1994).
Tyler gained wider recognition for her roles in films such as Heavy (1995), Empire Records (1995), and Stealing Beauty (1996). Her performance in Bernardo Bertolucci’s Stealing Beauty was particularly significant in establishing her as a rising star. She then starred in That Thing You Do! (1996), directed by Tom Hanks.
She further solidified her career with roles in the disaster film Armageddon (1998), which became a major box office success, and the romantic comedy Cookie’s Fortune (1999), directed by Robert Altman.
Tyler is perhaps best known for her portrayal of Arwen Undómiel in Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings film trilogy (2001-2003), based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s epic fantasy novel. Her performance as the immortal elf princess garnered her international acclaim.
Following The Lord of the Rings, Tyler continued to work in film, appearing in movies like Jersey Girl (2004), Lonesome Jim (2005), and The Strangers (2008). She also expanded her career into television, starring in the HBO drama series The Leftovers (2014-2017), where she received positive reviews for her performance.
More recently, she has starred in the Hulu series
