Early Life and Background

Liya Kebede was born on March 1, 1978, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. She was discovered by a film director while attending Lycée Guebre-Mariam in Addis Ababa. This encounter led to her pursuing a modeling career.

Modeling Career

Kebede relocated to Paris to further her modeling career. Her breakthrough came in 2000 when Tom Ford signed her to an exclusive contract for Gucci. She subsequently appeared on the cover of Vogue Paris in May 2002, dedicating the entire issue to her. Kebede has graced the covers of numerous international editions of Vogue, Elle, and i-D.
