Elizabeth Anne “Lizzy” Caplan was born on June 30, 1982, in Los Angeles, California. She is the daughter of Richard Caplan, a lawyer, and Gail (née Brandeis), a political aide. Caplan was raised in a Reform Jewish household. She attended Alexander Hamilton High School, where she initially focused on playing piano before transitioning to acting.

Career Beginnings

Caplan began her acting career in 1999 with a role in the television series Freaks and Geeks. She followed this with appearances in various television shows, including Once and Again and Smallville.
