Karen Lucille Hale, known professionally as Lucy Hale, was born on June 14, 1989, in Memphis, Tennessee. She was homeschooled and took acting and singing lessons as a child. Hale won a part in the reality television show American Juniors in 2003.
Following her appearance on American Juniors, Hale moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in acting. She made guest appearances on television shows such as Drake & Josh, Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide, and The O.C..
Hale’s career breakthrough came with her role as Aria Montgomery in the Freeform (formerly ABC Family) television series Pretty Little Liars (2010-2017). The series achieved widespread popularity, and Hale’s performance garnered critical acclaim and several Teen Choice Awards.
Beyond Pretty Little Liars, Hale has held leading roles in other television series. She starred in the short-lived CW series Life Sentence (2018) and portrayed Stella Abbott, a young woman battling cancer. She also starred in Katy Keene (2020), a spin-off of Riverdale, where she played the titular character.
