Maria Hinojosa is a Mexican-American journalist, news anchor, and author. She was born in Mexico City, Mexico, in 1961. She immigrated to the United States with her family as a child and grew up in Chicago, Illinois. Hinojosa attended Barnard College, Columbia University, graduating magna cum laude with a degree in Latin American studies and women’s studies.
Hinojosa has a distinguished career in journalism spanning over three decades. She has worked for major news organizations including PBS, CBS, CNN, NPR, and Univision. She has reported extensively on issues related to immigration, race, identity, and politics, often focusing on the experiences of Latino communities in the United States.
In 2010, Hinojosa founded Futuro Media Group, an independent, non-profit organization producing multimedia content that explores and elevates the stories of the new American mainstream. Through Futuro Media, she hosts and produces the long-running NPR show “Latino USA,” the political podcast “In The Thick,” and other projects.
