Natalie Dormer was born on February 11, 1982, in Reading, Berkshire, England. She attended Chiltern Edge Secondary School and Reading Blue Coat School. Dormer trained at the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art in London.
Dormer began her acting career on stage. Her film debut was in Casanova (2005) alongside Heath Ledger. Her breakthrough television role came in 2007 when she portrayed Anne Boleyn in the Showtime historical drama The Tudors, receiving critical acclaim for her performance.
Following The Tudors, Dormer secured significant roles in several popular television series. She is widely recognized for her portrayal of Margaery Tyrell in HBO’s fantasy drama Game of Thrones (2012–2016). She also starred as Irene Adler/Jamie Moriarty in CBS’s crime drama Elementary (2013–2015) and as Sarah York in the Australian drama series Picnic at Hanging Rock (2018).
Dormer has appeared in several notable films. She played Private Lorraine in Captain America: The First Avenger (2011). She also had roles in Rush (2013), The Counselor (2013), and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 (2014) and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 (2015), where she portrayed Cressida. In 2018, she starred in In Darkness, a thriller which she co-wrote and produced.
In addition to her film and television work, Dormer has returned to the stage throughout her career. Notable stage credits include Sweet Nothings at the Young Vic in 2010 and Venus in Fur at the Theatre Royal Haymarket in 2017.
