Nazanin Boniadi was born in Tehran, Iran, on May 22, 1980. Shortly after her birth, her family immigrated to London, England. She was raised in London and attended an independent school. Boniadi later moved to the United States to pursue her higher education. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences with honors from the University of California, Irvine. During her time at UCI, she also minored in Drama.
Boniadi transitioned from pursuing a career in medicine to acting. Her early acting roles included appearances in television series. She gained significant recognition for her role as Leyla Mir in the daytime drama *General Hospital* (2007-2009), for which she received a NAACP Image Award nomination.
