Paget Valerie Brewster was born on March 10, 1969, in Concord, Massachusetts, to Hathaway Brewster (née Tew), a civil administrator, and Galen Brewster, a school administrator. She grew up in Massachusetts and later moved to New York City to pursue acting.
Brewster initially pursued a career in fashion before transitioning to acting. Her early work included hosting a late-night talk show in the San Francisco Bay Area in the mid-1990s. She gained early recognition for her recurring role as Kathy on the fourth season of the television series Friends (1997-1998).
Brewster’s television career includes a variety of roles in both comedic and dramatic series. She is widely known for her portrayal of Special Agent Emily Prentiss on the CBS crime drama Criminal Minds, joining the cast in 2006 and remaining a key member, with some absences and returns, until the series concluded in 2020 and its revival, Criminal Minds: Evolution (2022-present). She also starred as Frankie Dart in the NBC sitcom Community (2015-2016). Other notable television appearances include roles in Huff (2004-2006), Another Period (2015-2018), and voice acting roles in animated series such as DuckTales and American Dad!.
