Sarah Wayne Callies was born on June 1, 1977, in La Grange, Illinois. Her parents, Valerie Wayne and David E. Callies, are both professors. Callies moved to Honolulu, Hawaii, with her family when she was one year old. She attended Punahou School and later Dartmouth College, where she double-majored in drama and women’s studies. She earned a Master of Fine Arts degree from the National Theatre Conservatory in Denver, Colorado.

Early Career and Breakthrough

Callies began her acting career with guest appearances on television shows such as “Queens Supreme,” “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” and “Numb3rs.” Her breakthrough role came in 2005 when she was cast as Dr. Sara Tancredi in the Fox television series “Prison Break.” She appeared in the first two seasons and returned as a series regular in seasons four and five.

Television Career

Following “Prison Break,” Callies secured a leading role as Lori Grimes in the AMC post-apocalyptic horror television series “The Walking Dead,” appearing from 2010 to 2013.
