Sofia Vergara, born Sofia Margarita Vergara Vergara on July 10, 1972, in Barranquilla, Colombia, is a Colombian-American actress, television producer, presenter, and model. She was raised in a Roman Catholic family and initially pursued pre-dentistry studies at a Colombian university before transitioning to a career in entertainment.
Vergara’s career began in the 1990s with modeling and television appearances in Colombia. She co-hosted the Univision travel show “Fuera de Serie” from 1995 to 1998. This role provided her with significant exposure in the Latin American market.
Vergara transitioned into acting with roles in films and television shows. She made her English-language acting debut in the 2003 film “Chasing Papi.”
Vergara achieved widespread recognition for her role as Gloria Delgado-Pritchett in the ABC sitcom “Modern Family,” which aired from 2009 to 2020. Her portrayal of Gloria earned her multiple Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series (2010, 2011, 2012, 2013).
