Teyonah Parris was born on September 22, 1987, in Hopkins, South Carolina. She is an American actress. Parris attended the South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities before studying at the Juilliard School, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Drama.
Parris began her career with guest appearances on television shows, including “The Good Wife” and “Law & Order.”
Her breakthrough role came in 2012 with her portrayal of Dawn Chambers in the AMC drama series “Mad Men,” a recurring role she held until 2015. Following “Mad Men,” Parris gained further recognition for her leading role in the 2014 independent film “Dear White People.”
She starred in Spike Lee’s “Chi-Raq” (2015). In 2018, she starred in Barry Jenkins’ “If Beale Street Could Talk,” which received critical acclaim and several awards.
Parris achieved widespread recognition for her portrayal of Monica Rambeau in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), first appearing in the Disney+ series “WandaVision” (2021) and subsequently in the film “The Marvels” (2023).
