Torrey Joël DeVitto was born on June 8, 1984, in Huntington, New York. Her father, Liberty DeVitto, was a drummer for Billy Joel for nearly 30 years. Her mother, Mary, was a stay-at-home mother. She has two sisters, Devon and Maryelle. DeVitto began playing the violin at age six and was fourth chair violin in the New York Youth Symphony at age twelve. She also worked as a model and dancer before transitioning into acting.
DeVitto began her acting career with guest appearances on television shows such as Dawson’s Creek in 2002. She secured a recurring role as Karen Kerr on the ABC Family series Beautiful People from 2005 to 2006. Early in her career, she also appeared in several films, taking on smaller roles.
DeVitto gained wider recognition for her role as Carrie in the CW teen drama One Tree Hill, appearing in the fifth and sixth seasons (2008-2009). She then portrayed Melissa Hastings in the ABC Family/Freeform series Pretty Little Liars from 2010 to 2017. From 2015 to 2016, she played Dr. Natalie Manning in the NBC medical drama Chicago Med, becoming a series regular. She was a series regular on Chicago Med until 2021.
DeVitto has appeared in a number of films, including I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer (2006), Killer Movie (2008), Evidence (2013), and Amy Makes Three (2016). More recently, she has starred in several Hallmark Channel movies, including Write Before Christmas (2019) and The Christmas Promise (2021).
