Valerie Bertinelli, born April 23, 1960, in Wilmington, Delaware, is an American actress and television personality. She is of Italian descent on her father’s side. Her family moved frequently throughout her childhood due to her father’s career at General Motors, residing in Delaware, Michigan, Oklahoma, and California. She attended Granada Hills High School in Granada Hills, Los Angeles, California.
Bertinelli’s acting career began in the mid-1970s. Her breakthrough role came at the age of 15 when she was cast as Barbara Cooper Royer on the CBS sitcom One Day at a Time (1975-1984). This role established her as a teen idol and launched her career in television.
Following One Day at a Time, Bertinelli starred in numerous made-for-television movies and miniseries throughout the 1980s and 1990s. She returned to sitcoms with Sydney (1990), which lasted for a single season. She later starred in Café Americain (1993-1994) and Touched by an Angel (2001-2003) in a recurring role.
