Willow Shields was born on June 1, 2000, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, to Carrie and Rob Shields. She is the twin sister of Autumn Shields and has an older brother, River Shields, both of whom are also actors. Shields was homeschooled and developed an interest in acting at a young age.
Shields began her acting career in 2008 with an uncredited role in the television series In Plain Sight. She followed this with appearances in the Hallmark Hall of Fame television film Beyond the Blackboard (2011) and in episodes of the television series R.L. Stine’s The Haunting Hour.
Shields gained widespread recognition for her portrayal of Primrose Everdeen in The Hunger Games film series (2012-2015). She appeared in all four films: The Hunger Games (2012), The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (2013), The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 (2014), and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 (2015). Her role as Primrose, the younger sister of Katniss Everdeen, was pivotal to the storyline.
In 2015, Shields participated in the 20th season of Dancing with the Stars, becoming the youngest contestant ever to appear on the show at the age of 14. She was partnered with professional dancer Mark Ballas and reached the seventh week of the competition.
Following The Hunger Games, Shields has continued to act in various projects, including the film A Fall from Grace (2019) and the television series Spinning Out (2020) on Netflix, where she played Serena Baker.
