Yvonne Catterfeld was born on December 2, 1979, in Erfurt, East Germany (then German Democratic Republic). She began taking piano and flute lessons at a young age and later studied singing, guitar, and dance. After graduating from high school, she studied jazz and popular music at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Leipzig from 1998 to 2000.
Catterfeld initially gained recognition as a singer. In 2000, she participated in the singing competition ” Stimme 2000,” where she reached the final round. Her musical career took off with the release of her debut single “Befreit” in 2001.
